Our Philosophy

Warrenton Presbyterian School (WPS) is a nonprofit outreach program of Warrenton Presbyterian Church and is an extension of the church’s ministry to the community. WPS serves children 2 – 5 years of age and offers 2, 3 and 4-day morning preschool classes.

WPS is a Christian preschool and therefore we teach the elements of Christian faith through weekly chapel time, Bible stories, songs and prayers.

The staff of WPS strives to help build a firm academic foundation for our students in a loving, safe and stimulating environment. Our curriculum is teacher-created and based on developmentally appropriate expectations and goals. Preschool lessons focus on language development and early literacy concepts (name and alphabet recognition, rhyming, letter/sound correspondence, etc.), problem solving and math skills (shape and color identification, counting, sorting, patterning, etc.), as well as science concepts.

WPS provides physical education to all our students to help develop gross motor skills. We also provide many hands-on opportunities for fine motor practice.

We encourage creativity every day through art projects and crafts, music, rhythm, singing and cooking.

Our staff works to foster social and emotional growth in our preschoolers. We consistently work to build a feeling of community in the classroom, and in the school as a whole. We remind students each day of the importance of sharing, following directions, using words to express one’s self and showing respect for others.

WPS is dedicated to making preschool a fun, positive experience for each student. We believe in an open system of communication between home and school because we feel that parents and educators are partners in educating, guiding and caring for the precious children we share. We are Christians in the Reformed tradition, who believe that humanity’s chief end is to glorify God that we might enjoy Him forever, and that the promises of God are for us and for our children.

To this end, the mission of the Warrenton Presbyterian School is to provide a high quality preschool education to facilitate the growth of our children in a Christian faith-based community.

“Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”

Matthew 19:14
